Brotherhood for 60 Years and
Counting...
|
In
the Spring of 1947, a men's music fraternity was established at
Jacksonville State Teachers College, in the Appalachian foothills of
northeast Alabama. Christened Alpha Sigma Nu, one of its primary
objectives was to someday gain affiliation with a growing national music
fraternity known as Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
The next few years were not easy for the brothers of Alpha Sigma Nu, as
they worked hard to establish an identity among the student body of
Jacksonville State while trying to meet the high membership standards of
the national fraternity. Their tireless efforts would soon pay off,
however. On May 7, 1950, the brothers of Alpha Sigma Nu received their
national charter, and the Epsilon Nu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia was
born.
In the years since 1950, Jacksonville State has achieved university
status, boasting an enrollment of 9,000 students. The Sinfonia has seen
its centennial year come and go. And the Epsilon Nu Chapter has earned a
reputation as one of the most active and well-respected organizations on
the JSU campus, continuing the tradition of excellence and hard work
first established by the brothers of Alpha Sigma Nu over 50 years ago.
